English
At Little Bloxwich, we help our youngest children build strong writing skills by starting with the basics of spelling, handwriting, and understanding sounds through phonics. In Early Years and Year 1, children learn to form letters and words confidently, which helps make writing feel more natural to them. We also focus on building ideas and creativity by encouraging children to talk about their thoughts and stories before writing them down. Using high-quality stories and books as examples, children get to explore how stories are told and how language works. With this approach, we aim to give our students a strong foundation in both the technical skills and creative thinking they need to become confident readers and writers as they move up through the school.
This term in English we are continuing with our dictation writing focusing on adding our wooshes for joining. We will be looking at the books:
Look up by Nathan Byron
The Highway Rat by Julia Donaldson
Smile out Loud by Joseph Coelho
Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram
Five Minutes Peace by Jill Murphy
What the Ladybird heard at the seaside by Julia Donaldson

Don’t forget our wonderful trip on January 30th to look at toys from the past – can you find out anything about old toys and which are still around today? How have they changed?
